Should You Mail Out Samples?

As a Direct Sales (DS) Consultant ( My Company), it is essential for me to expand my customer base.. Living in a rural area,  mailing out samples becomes a logical outreach method.  I still needed to connect with people, who wanted what I had to offer..what better way than through Social Media–so Facebook was on my radar..

After joining a few DS Facebook Groups, my excitement grew seeing how many people were asking for samples–they had a need and I could help them!

Read the Post for the Want

I learned over time that you should actually read what the person is asking for..If there is absolutely no correlation between their need and your product, don’t waste your time and clog up their feed..

Here are a couple of my favourite examples of people not taking the time to understand a person’s need..

Need–Take-Home Bags for a 2 year old’s Birthday Party.                                                Answer–Self Defence Company

Need–Elementary School Teacher’s Gifts                                                                            Answer–Adult Toy Company

What Could Go Wrong?

Apparently,  I got into groups with a few questionable members..  Had a steep learning curve..

I have people dying to shop with you MEANS join this group and add 50 friends so they can  be spammed..

Guaranteed Sales MEANS  sales for the person who set up the group.

I want to try samples before I buy MEANS  if 60 people want to send me free samples..I will certainly take them.. (who can blame them)  wouldn’t have to buy for monthes..

As you can tell,  I have not had the best luck..I was way to anxious to send samples out….

What is not Going Wrong

Looking close at a person’s post..are they specific about their need or just seeing what people will offer..( again, who can blame them).. Are the replies the same to every person who has offered samples?

Keep a record of who you send what ….I sometimes see names that I recognize …so………

Contact people after the samples are they respond, if not just remember!

Samples have to be purchased, packaged and invest both your time and money so try to gauge who you invest in..

I have a FB Fan Page and think I have a plan for Sample Seekers..If I see a need, in a post, that I think I can fill, I will send them to my FB page (FBF page) and have them officially request a sample.. If they really want a sample, people will do the extra step..

Hoping you got a smile from this post..and maybe got a bit of insight into my Sampling Life!                            Thanks, Denise

Protein Shake Mix Pancakes

Where I Get my Protein Shake Mix

Kind of a  damp, lazy why not have a hot breakfast..sounded good to me! Since I wanted something healthy and gluten free..I decided to do pancakes and add a full serving of protein shake mix..  I usually don’t measure (much)..but tried so I would have an actual recipe to write here..

  1. Squash bananas
  2. Add 3 Scoops of Vanilla Protein Shake Mix
  3. Add 2 eggs.
  4. Add 1 tsp of xanthum gum  (optional)
  5. Add 2 tsps. cinnamon
  6. Add 1 tsp vanilla
  7. 1/3 cup of almond milk

Stir together..batter will be not be smooth.   Cook over medium heat until brown and then flip and do the other side.. I prefer a firmer pancake so use the xanthum gum as a thickener  and find that cooking smaller pancakes help them remain firm.

I served them with agave and did a crossword puzzle-a Perfect Morning!

Breakfast is done  and 20 gms of vegan protein from the shake mix..

Anyone wishing for  vegan option, could use egg substitute..

This are so tasty and you can put in whatever you like.–chocolate chips would be yummy!

Pinterest Has Saved Me a Ton of Money!

Wanna See Some of my Treasures?

Shopping has always been a great way to spend and afternoon or evening.. Since I have always lived in rural locations, travel was usually warranted to get to the stores.  The added travel time, helped keep the frequency of these road trips much lower ..

Now nearly everyone has the ability to shop on no travel time..nothing is ever closed and  the selection is limitless.  You bored-shop….can’t sleep-shop….sad-shop..,,happy-shop; I am sure you have got the drift…Any excuse to shop and it so easy….no makeup..easy-peasey..   I quickly had online shopping perfected….

I then began  to hear people talking about things that they had seen on Pinterest..some of the topics sounded in I went..  Pinterest is my EDEN..everything that I might ever want to see is just waiting for me to search for it and then it appears on my screen…There was so much for me to see and think about . how was I to remember everything?

Creating Boards is such a rewarding experience…the item is “yours”  and you don’t have pay for it…You still have acquired the item that you desired and  can go back to a board and see your treasure again. and again!

So I thank Pinterest for filling many of my bored hours and saving me a lot of money!

Is Your Makeup Vegan?

Hendershot District has lists of animal products used in personal care products

Wanna See What I Use?

Cosmetic products have been used for thousands of years. Cosmetic products were first used to clean the skin and mask odours then dyes for the skin and hair were introduced.. Next lips and cheeks began to get rouged and kohl was  lining the eyes and eyebrows.

In the 1920’s the mass production marketing of cosmetic products began evolving around the industrial revolution and women getting a louder voice.   Companies wanted makeup to have a longer shelf-life, so introduced chemicals to into the formulations of make-ups. The companies felt that the formulations would work better and last longer.  Women felt they could get a more beautiful look easier and more affordable…

Eventually, we became a bit concerned about what we were slathering daily on our skin  Most of us know the biggies to avoid lead, coal tar, formaldehyde releasers and mineral oil..  We also released what was done to animals during product began looking for cruelty- free products.. Cruelty-Free means that the products are not tested on animals but may still contain animal derivatives.

Webster’s defines vegan as a person that does not eat or use animal products  so I thought a vegan site would be a good place for me to do a it of research..A really good article that I found was 10 Common Cosmetic Ingredients that are Derived from Animal Products by Pam Ryan featured on ONE GREEN PLANET.    Here is a list of some of the “sneakier” ingredients..

  1. Cochineal Dye- Made from crushed cochineal beetles : the females eat red cactus berries so when they are crushed, a vibrant red dye is produced.   Used in lipsticks and blush.
  2. Guanine-Crystalline material that is light diffusing and found in crushed fish scales. Used in mascaras, nail polish and lipsticks.
  3. Tallow-Rendered animal fat that is produced by boiling the carcasses until a fatty substance is produced. Used in makeup bases, foundation, lipstick and eye makeup.
  4.  Gelatin– The boiled skin, tendons, ligaments, and the bones of animals. Used in creamy cosmetics and nail treatments.
  5. Lanolin–The greasy buildup in the hair of wool-bearing animals.  Used in lipsticks and makeup removers.
  6. Squalene– Extracted from the liver of sharks. Used in eye makeup and lipsticks.
  7. Ambergris– Derived from the waxy oil that lines a whale’s stomach.. This oily substance is used to make the scent “set” in perfume.  Used in perfume.
  8. Collagen – Derived from the fibrous protein of animal tissues.  Used in lip-plumping glosses.
  9. Estrogen – Obtained by extracting urine from pregnant mares.. Used in perfumes and restorative creams.
  10. Retinol– Nearly always derived from an animal and is a potent source of Vitamin A.  It is used in anti-aging products.

Vegan Products have known of these ingredients and have plant and mineral bases..  Plant have always been used to heal, soothe, calm and moisturize..  Why not continue the use of gentler products?

Here is one of my pet-peeves. –When you put on lipstick some of it will naturally be absorbed into your system..Oh wait, you eat a bit too,  everytime you eat a bit of lipstick gets ingested..There are several  thoughts of the total amount of lipsticks you ingest throughout your life..but I will go to a moderate total..Ladies 4 pounds and  Gentlemen 2.5  pounds..        SO.. what is in your lipstick?

Grow Your Network Marketing Business

Your products are great, the company has a smart compensation plan so why is your network not growing as quickly as you planned?

Well if the products and the compensation plan are good and other people are having great success, the only variable is you.. Think of it  you all have the same products and the   same trainings available so why do some succeed and other not so much?

Since you picked your company, you must love the products and believe in the do you believe in yourself?   Are you confident that  you can be a great consultant/representative and that you deserve all the success that you can earn.

You have to believe, without hesitation, in your abilities, your company and your future..

If you are confident in yourself then  it is your network growing system that might need to be addressed..

Do people avoid asking you how things are going, screen your calls or hide in the bushes when they see you approaching?    They may have sensed your desperation for results- desperation is not an attractive quality for anyone..In order to be attractive to potential customers, you must find a way to meet their needs instead of always trying to sell to them.

Look around your company at those who are having better results..find the leaders and see what they are doing. To be successful in Network Marketing, the steps have to be easily duplicated,  which they probably are,  just learn and implement them.. Watch others and then do it yourself–Success Modeling.

Your online market strategy is to drive people to your content..the landing page, funnels, and ultimately for sales.   The term Attraction Marketing is getting a lot of mentions in the articles that I have been reading.. Basically, you have something that attracts people to you..People want to do business with people that they know, like and trust..

An article on Wikihow “How to Attract Customers for Free with Attraction Marketing” has been viewer 38,869 times, so there is a huge  interest in Attraction Marketing..

In this article some of the points stressed were :

-be a trusted advisor..keep the customer’s needs in mind and problem solve for them..find a potential solution.

-teaching  demonstrates that you are an expert

-answer questions online can widen your audience

One of the biggest take-always  know your target audience..Who exactly are you trying to attract?

Another Article on Huffington Post. The ABC of Attraction Marketing Online–  by Kim Harris

A   Align your message with your audience in an authentic way.

B. Believe in your product and your ability to assist your customer.

C. Communicate/connect in a consistent manner; connect with your audience personally   not sales-pitchy.

These are just a few suggestions to implement to start the expansion of your Network

This could be a great help to you..but it is just my opinion.

Do You Shop at “Second-Hand” Shops?

Did anyone else ever go into a Second-Hand Store and hope that you didn’t  see anyone that you knew?  Albeit they would have been there for the same reason, but that didn’t didn’t want to be known as someone who wasn’t wearing brand spanking new clothes..

Well, now it is almost in vogue to recycle goods..actually anything..As you are helping to save the environment you are also saving some money..Good all ways around!

We were in Value Village a few days ago and there were a few bags of yarn…I picked the one with a lot of yellow..and the cost for the entire bag was $3.99 and with Tom’s Senior Discount, it cost $3.20…and look at all the yarn!

Another great deal that I got the day was a set of Ladies Pajamas..tagged at $7.99..Tom got for $6.40..originally tag was $129.99..perfectly brand new..Hope they fit!

There are a few things that I try not to buy used..unders and shoes..but if  the shoes looked new..would be something to consider buying..

My favourite buy at a Second Hand Store was a gorgeous scarf..It looked new and had great colours and when I looked at the tag .. 100% Cashmere..Made in Scotland.. Yeah!

If you have the time and can find treasures!

Easy Dish Scrubby

I have not knit for nearly 40 years.. (I was never a fancy knitter)…I have been trying to find very simple I will feel like I have accomplished something useful!

Well I came across several Dish Scrubby Patterns on Pinterest and found one that was knit..  Simple and quick… absolutely perfect!

The pattern called for all garter stitch..knitting ever row..but I threw in a few purl rows to flatten the finished product  a bit..  I used a size 8 or 10 needles..(they don’t have the size on them) so I am guessing..and a wonderful yarn that  is perfect for this job..Red Heart Scrubby….the colour that I picked was Tropical..

Cast on 15 Stitches..I used two strands of yarn so it would make up thicker.. Just start knitting..Every fourth row I purled to flatten out the pattern a bit..After you knit three inches, about 22 rows, cast off.  Then I sewed down the ends..and thought that it looked a bit thin for  a I folded it in half.  Looked great so I did a simple Blanket Stich around the edge..( the yarn is so rough that any stitch would look fine).

So my first Dish Scrubby is finished!
